Professional interns

During your internship

Two obligations run for the whole period: get exposure to the range of work RIA requires, and record it as you go, signed by your supervisor.

The record

Fill it in weekly

Your logbook records the projects you worked on, what you did on each, and the periods covered, countersigned by your supervisor. It takes a few minutes a week, and it is the difference between a completion that is validated in one sitting and one that is referred back. Candidates reconstructing two years from memory are the single most common cause of a delayed licence.

What you may and may not do

The safe position throughout your internship is that the supervising architect carries professional responsibility for everything, and their name and registration number appear on the drawings. You may not offer architectural services independently or take professional responsibility for a design.

Your entry on the register

Visible for the whole period

You appear publicly as a professional intern for the whole period. If a client checks your name they will see that you are registered and supervised. If your supervisor changes, your entry must change with it — tell RIA when it happens.

FAQ

Can I take on private work of my own?
Not as an independent architect. Work outside the supervised arrangement must not be presented as independent practice.
I am not being given real responsibility.
That is a supervision problem, and RIA would rather hear about it in year one than see it in a referred completion. Contact the Registrar at architectsofrwanda@gmail.com or +250 788 753 224.
