Continuing professional development

Architects reviewing professional development materials together

Registered members must complete continuing professional development each cycle and show it at renewal. This page states the requirement, what counts, and how it is recorded.

The requirement

RIA requires evidence of continuing professional development whenever you apply for membership or renew your practising licence: certificates for CPD, professional trainings or seminars covering at least two activities from previous years and two from the current year. Regional and foreign applicants show professional training certificates for at least three previous years and one current year, together with their current annual practice licence.

What counts

RIA events Seminars, workshops and the annual conference.
Accredited providers Courses run by approved external providers.
Formal study Further qualifications and structured courses.
Teaching Teaching or supervising within the profession.
Writing Published articles, papers and guidance.
Committee service Serving on an RIA committee or panel.

How to record it

Keep the certificate or attendance record for every activity as you complete it, and attach them to your renewal or application file. Records that cannot be evidenced at renewal cannot be counted.

Check your balance before the renewal window opens, not during it.
