Professional interns

Completing your internship

Your supervisor confirms completion, RIA validates it, and you become eligible to sit the professional examination.

The Kigali Convention Centre

What you submit

Your completion submission is your signed record — the logbook of projects, periods and duties, countersigned by your supervisor — together with your supervisor's written confirmation of completion and the recommendation letter that accompanies your application for chartered membership, your CV, your notified degree and your CPD or training certificates.

How it is assessed

Completion is validated against the range of work required, which is why recording as you go matters: a record kept weekly is validated in one sitting, while one reconstructed at the end is referred back.

Then the examination

Validation makes you eligible; it does not enrol you. Examination sessions and their entry deadlines are published on the calendar, and entry deadlines close well before the session. On passing, you are licensed to practise independently and your register entry changes from professional intern to licensed.

The timing that catches people

Work backwards from the entry deadline

If your two years end shortly after an entry deadline, you wait for the following session. Look at the calendar in your final six months and work backwards from the entry deadline, not from your completion date.
